About Waiting States

Waiting States is a reference site built to explain ambiguous status language.

Many systems show labels like under review, pending, in progress, delayed, or on hold without explaining what those labels actually tell you. Waiting States breaks those phrases down into plain-English interpretations: what they usually mean, how strong the signal is, what they are commonly confused with, and what matters more than the label itself.

Each page focuses on one status phrase and explains what is usually happening behind the scenes, why the status may stay unchanged, how to interpret it in context, and when action might make sense. The site is designed to be neutral, practical, and answer-first — without pretending to predict outcomes it cannot know.

Waiting States currently focuses on job application statuses and hiring-process signals. Over time, it may expand into other waiting-state categories where people need help interpreting unclear progress, delays, and next steps.

Waiting States is not affiliated with employers, schools, lenders, carriers, or software platforms. Content is general informational guidance and may not match every workflow or system.
